Dead, diseased, or hazardous trees that pose an immediate risk to people or property may often be removed without a permit, but documentation and a qualified assessment are recommended.

Permits are commonly required for: removal of large or protected tree species, commercial and multi-family site work, land clearing for new construction, and work within stream buffers or conservation areas. Residential removal of a clearly hazardous tree may not require a permit, but we always recommend confirming with the city before proceeding.
